I won
The first quarter super bowl pool. Last year I won twice. I don’t watch the superbowl. I received some angry texts banning me from playing next year. I say thats the point, I play so I can win. I’ll play next year too.

2013 Bucket List
I’m determined to not let infertility rule my life in 2013 so here’s my list of goals/fun things I’d like to do 1. mud run 2. triathlon (maybe…need a pool to join & funds are tight) 3. yoga 4. ski (more than 1x) 5. get that hot tub running (the one we’ve had for 9 years & finally put in our yard) 6. take horseback riding lessons 7. think about and...

Visit to our local Waldorf School
We have a bridge year for our 4 year old September birthday daughter. She is in pre-k with all the kids who are going to kindergarten next year. She is doing wonderfully academically with the readiness skills, but she struggles emotionally so I don’t want to send her to kindergarten even though she meets the cut off. I also don’t want her to go to the private kindergarten at her...

Positive Parenting in the New Year
My resolution and lifetime change is to be a better parent. Like all the time. I want to completely adopt a new philosophy based on being positive. I have a four year old who is violent on a regular basis. We see a child psychologist who encourages us to “train” her by counting to 3 and giving her time outs. Some times it works, but she struggles with severe  separation anxiety so she...

Mixed emotions
I am all over the place emotionally, I go from being super content, filled with joy and gratitude, and thoroughly enjoying my life to dread. To an overwhelming feeling of anticipatory stress of the new school year, of not being relaxed enough to enjoy round 2 of clomid, I get filled with the what-ifs. I was watching Teen Mom (and yes I referenced it before, I am like a super fan!) and they showed...

Clomid round 2
One failed round of clomid. The anxiety of doing it all over again is insane. 3 phone calls for a new prescription of clomid, 2 calls to the pharmacy, OMG-just fill it so I don’t have anxiety that I am going to somehow mess up my cycle.  The good news is clomid did exactly what it is supposed to do. It induced ovulation. I ovulated and released 3 mature eggs. I had progesterone levels of...

What infertility has taught me
I know. I am not a consistent blogger. I also started this as a way to interact with other teachers. I struggled with that for fear of being found out since I often had more to share then just cool ideas. Anyway, in the last six months my infertility has been the most challenging obstacle, or roller coaster I have ever faced. The anxiety that I feel regarding it is intense and scary. Today I was...

How I feel (most personal post I've written)
The last year, the last week, the last month…all of it have been difficult. I set out on my baby-family journey at 30. After 5 months of trying to conceive, we were successful in January 2008. We dealt with doctors who sucked and scared the crap out of me, a pre term labor scare where I was told my daughter could have all kinds of things wrong with her, an induction, and a perfectly healthy...

I want to do cross fit!!!
One just opened in a town nearby. It’s $185 a month. Yikes! I can’t do that right now. It’s $200 to take the 8 beginner classes. So like hundreds of dollars. Boo…Maybe in the future.

Running Partners
I always want to run with people, but it is rare when I have someone who will run with me. Sometimes on the weekends I can get a friend or my brother, but its usually just me. My local running store hosts group runs twice a week. So on a whim I went last night. I was expecting a decent crowd, but there was only one other person. She was a high school senior. She lives in town and said she knew a...

5k last night
It was definitely cooler than I was expecting last night. I was cold while waiting for the start in my short sleeve shirt and capri leggings. I was unsure of my fitness going into this race. I run about 3x a week. I haven’t run too many hills in the last few weeks either, but overall I am working out about 4-5x a week.  That being said my brother asked how I’ve been feeling on my...

Stress and Teaching
There are so many many things this past week that have been stressful at work. We have state testing coming up and I don’t have a classroom since I mostly provide in class support, so we had to find a room, get materials, move tables, rearrange my schedule so that I still saw my students in other grades while I tested the 5th graders. Needless to say, I could continue on this rant for...

They Might be Giants
My husband found out they would be playing for free outside of a local library. We were excited and he and a friend decided to go. I wanted to go also, but when I asked a friend she said she would come with her husband and 2 kids. I wasn’t thinking it would be great for kids, but that was just me thinking about when I used to see shows, (like back in 1993-1996) so I was skeptical about...

Must Read: Out of my Mind by Sharon Draper
A few teachers have been passing around the book so I decided I wanted to give it a read. It is told from the perspective of an 11year old girl melody.Melody has cerebral palsy.she also cannot speak or communicate beyond a board on her chair. She describes what her life in both self contained and inclusion classes in a public school are like.she discusses the real understanding she has of how...

A touching moment
My mother in law found a children’s book from her childhood written in Hungarian. She read the stories and the translations to my daughter. My daughter loved it and I hope someday my daughter will learn a bit of the language.

My daughter has a toothbrush that plays music for 2 minutes while she brushes her teeth. I use those two minutes to see how many squats I can do. I yesterday I was squatting away and noticed my daughter was standing on her pretty high stool brushing and squatting just like me. Within a minute she lost her footing and fell off the stool. I told her she didn’t have to do what mommy does. Poor...

Don't want to
I was set to run 5 miles yesterday. My brother canceled and I decided it was a good “rest” day. This morning I was going to go before the playdate. I slept instead. My daughter is napping. It is normal March weather instead of the 70’s we’ve had all week and I think its cold. I have my running pants on and I am under the blanket looking out my window. I’ve seen 2...

Opinion
In the last few days I have heard of more than one women complaining about her husband to her mother in law. This seems counter productive. I would think (and maybe I am missing something) that his mother has unconditional love for her son and would become defensive at her daughter in law complaining about him. I am not certain what the motivation would be to going to your spouse’s support...

Things going on this week
I’m taking a break from my flashback fridays as I was running out of stories that came to me quickly. Yeah, I am that kind of writer. If the words do not come quickly then I lose interest in the topic. I am best at writing about myself and creating fictional characters. Non fiction research papers, not so much. So the nap wars at daycare may really be over. I’m crossing my fingers,...

Kate Klise
Came to my school today. I attended her talk for the kindergarten and first graders. She spoke about how she began making books with her sister. She explained how writing can be a messy process. She taught the children that they needed some important elements in their stories. She introduced her latest story,Grammy Lamby. I am trying to underline the title, but it just keeps getting crossed out...

Re: Technology and Kids
I completely understand your concern about today’s youth and too much technology. I think that it’s ok as long as the child knows its also a learning tool and not just one big electronic toy. As a college student, computers are used during the lectures, however most students have their head buried deep in their cell phone, laptops, iPads and the what nots. I think it’s the...

Technology and kids
Warning: this post contains no scientific data, no research, no studies. It comes out of a discussion with a co worker. Every year we have to create a professional improvement plan. We have to select a goal for the following year and create a timeline of how we will meet that goal. The district has been latching on to the 21st Century Learning Skills. We now have many classes participating in...

A milestone
Just had to put this in writing before I forgot. My daughter asked me to zip her coat, I was busy putting keys/phone in my pocket and told her to wait. She said, “No, I can do it.” and proceeded to in one swift motion zipper up her coat!!! I was so impressed!

Teacher Truth Tuesday
I am finding teaching addition and subtraction facts to first graders a bit redundant. I love that they are being taught different ways to look at groups of numbers. I wish I knew some of the strategies when I was first learning my facts. We are about 2 months in and I am looking forward to the next unit.

Friday ice cream
My daughter was told she was going to have ice cream sundaes at her cousin’s house. She’s never had a sundae so when she wanted to know when we were going to have them she said, “When are we having Friday ice cream?”

travel plans
We are flying to Nashville to visit my best friend. Then we are driving to south of Atlanta to visit my in laws. We have never done a road trip as a family. Does anyone know of any fun things to do in Chatanooga? We are stopping there as our halfway point. I’m dreading the trip in the car, but we travel really well as a family, so I am soooo excited about showing new sights to our daughter.

Flashback Friday
In 1993 I decided I needed a job. I was 16 and really wanted money for a car. A lot of my friends including my best friend and boyfriend at the time both worked at the local grocery store. My boyfriend did the newspapers on Sunday morning and was a bagger. My best friend was a cashier. I was hired and began training to be a cashier. Sometimes in the beginning I was a bagger and learned how to...

Teen Mom 2
The season finale had me crying as Leah packed up her stuff. I can’t imagine being 19 and dealing with the very adult issues these girls are dealing with. It’s so hard to have a relationship at their ages and then throw a child in the mix. I struggle as a 35 year old with relationship and parenting issues so I don’t think I would have handled myself very well 15 years ago in...

5k in the slush!
Drove an  hour and 15 south to meet my friend C @ the boardwalk. It was good to see the beach and the run was the same place as my first half marathon so I was having some fond memories going on in my head.  It was warmer than I expected so I didn’t wear my jacket and wished I wasn’t wearing thermals under my running pants. Race was off to a great start despite some areas of slippery...

Flashback Friday
When I was in 8th grade they had a high school sports sign up day. My good friend at the time B was a swimmer and we both liked to run so she said she was signing up for cross country. I had no idea what cross country was, but she was my friend so I signed up too. That summer one of the captains organized some summer runs. I liked the runs and in the fall there were only 3 freshman (me, B and J)...

Soccer?
Gymnastics didn’t work out for my daughter. I saw that my town has soccer starting at age 3. I know she didn’t do so well with the intensity of her gymnastics class. I am hoping that soccer will be a little more fun for her and she will get to run free on a field and see how that goes. The funniest part is that if you don’t volunteer in some capacity you have to pay a $40 fee....
